WHY ANTITRUST?

A Panel Of Recent Law Graduates Discuss With Current Law Students Why They Chose To Practice Antitrust Law And Why You Might Want To As Well!

The New York State Bar Association’s annual program for law students interested in antitrust law will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2007, at 9:00 am. Participating in the panel will be recent law graduates from several law firms and federal and state government agencies, each offering their perspectives and experiences in practicing antitrust law as a junior attorney. The program offers a rare and unique experience for law students to hear about this exciting and challenging area of the law from recent graduates who practice in this area.

Antitrust law continues to play a major role in the shaping of today’s dynamic and complex global economy. Civil and criminal antitrust cases involving a wide variety of products and industries are frequently the subject of headline news. From the monopolization case against Microsoft to the criminal investigation of the vitamins industry, antitrust cases can result in the restructuring of companies and even entire industries. As an exciting field of practice that has a direct impact on businesses and consumers in critical segments of the economy, antitrust law provides challenging and rewarding work for attorneys in both the private and public sectors.

The July 12 panel will include junior lawyers from several major law firms, as well as the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, and the New York State Attorney General’s Office. The panelists will discuss their varied experiences and provide details on the type of work done by antitrust lawyers. A portion of the program will be allotted for questions and comments. Audience participation will be encouraged.

The program will take place from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the law offices of Latham & Watkins (885 Third Avenue, between 53rd and 54th Streets). Breakfast refreshments will be served beginning at 8:30 am. All law students interested in the possibility of pursuing antitrust law as a career are encouraged to attend this informative and worthwhile event. RSVPs are required by July 3, preferably by e-mail. Please RSVP to Eric J. Stock of Hogan & Hartson, at ejstock@hhlaw.com. Please include in your RSVP your law school affiliation and summer employment, if any.

The program and breakfast are free of charge.

Hope to see you there!
