Today In Antitrust History

On May 15, 1911, the Supreme Court issued its ruling in the seminal case Standard Oil Company of New Jersey v. United States, 221 U.S. 1.  The Court dissolved the Standard Oil trust into thirty-three companies and in doing so, held that the Sherman Act outlawed only restraints that were anticompetitive - subject to a rule of reason.
