Major Antitrust Group Moves

We hear that the entire antitrust group of a major firm is moving to an even more major New York firm, effective Monday Jan 29 (all partners, special counsels and associates, both in the NY office and in the DC office). The group has been at the current firm only for a relatively short time and is now moving again. And this time, none of the group are staying behind. Keep your eyes peeled on Monday, this move will be big news, we’ll post more detail once the story hits the papers.

Update by David Fischer: The Wall Street Journal broke the news this morning.  As stated in the WSJ Law Blog:

Leading antitrust lawyer Steven Sunshine has joined Skadden Arps. He left Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft , where he headed up that firm’s antitrust practice. … Also joining Skadden are Cadwalader antitrust partners Jess Biggio and Matthew Hendrickson. Sunshine will be based in D.C.; Biggio and Hendrickson — who joins Skadden as counsel — will work in New York. Several associates in Sunshine’s former group are expected to leave Cadwalader for Skadden, according to people at both firms.

Above the Law also has the story.

Another Update by Manfred Gabriel:  Word is that the group of antitrust associates around Sunshine, Biggio, and Hendrickson at CWT will move to Skadden effective tomorrow, February 1st. Emails with “my new contant information” have started going out today, it seems. Let us know if you hear confirmation of who else has joined Skadden.

  1. David Fischer Says:

Can we guess the law firms here in the comments?

  2. Jim Stark Says:

What’s being missed in the coverage of this story is that this is the biggest lateral move to Skadden in that firm’s history. Rumor has it that over 20 lawyers are moving. I believe the previous record for Skadden was 6 lawyers back in the 1980s.

  3. David Fischer Says:

I hear similar rumors but have yet to see a list of the associates and of counsel who are moving to Skadden. Skadden’s press release just lists the three partners.

If anyone has a list - full or partial - of the lawyers who are moving to Skadden from Cadwalader, please email them to us: antitrustreview at gmail dot com.

In addition to it being a (potentially) large addition to Skadden, it is a (potentially) large loss for Cadwalder.
