More On The Additions To Skadden
As we have obsessively chronicled, most of the antitrust lawyers at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft are moving to Skadden Arps. The Lawyer.com reports that ”Cadwalader’s antitrust capability is now limited to three litigation specialists in its New York headquarters.” It also reports that:
He [Steve Sunshine] jumped ship from Shearman to Cadwalader for a reputed $3m remuneration package, which sealed the deal over contenders including Willkie Farr & Gallagher and Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy.
The Lawyer.com, alas, fails to report – speculate? – on his remuneration package at Skadden.
The New York Law Journal also has an article about the move. It also reports that:
Cadwalader had looked to Sunshine, a former lawyer with the Department of Justice’s antitrust division, to launch its antitrust group, but firm Chairman Robert O. Link said Monday that the firm had wanted a more litigation-oriented practice while Sunshine was more interested in advising on antitrust aspects of M&A. Link said Skadden’s larger M&A practice was a better fit for Sunshine’s group and that the parting was amicable. Sunshine also said he had been happy at Cadwalader but had been drawn to Skadden by its larger M&A practice as well as an already substantial antitrust practice. A number of associates are also expected to join Skadden from Cadwalader in the coming weeks.
Given that Cadwalader is reportedly down to three antirust litigators – although its website currently lists 7 antitrust attorneys (3 partners, 3 associates and 1 special counsel; 3 in NY and 4 in DC) - I suspect that headhunters will soon be contacting potential laterals on Cadwalader’s behalf. Speaking of headhunters, if a headhunter was responsible for bringing the 20 or so lawyers to Skadden, he/she is going to be drinking some very nice Champagne this year.
